Final Social Media Pages

Facebook

This is the final Facebook page. It includes the profile image and I have posted photographs and videos from previous years Film Festivals.

Twitter

This is the personalised Twitter background I have created. I wanted it to fit with the posters and website so I have used the same background and assets but re sized it to the size of the Twitter page.

The background was then added to the Twitter page and I have populated it with tweets and video posts.

YouTube

The YouTube background is the same as Twitter but has been sized. This is to retain consistency throughout the campaign.

The text boxes and boarder were changed as well as the background so the page looks more personalised and part of the film festival brand.

Profile Logo

A logo needs to be designed to be used as the profile picture for Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The key elements to this logo are that it needs to be visible on a small scale, consistent with the style of the rest of the campaign and instantly recognisable in association with the co-operative film festival.

This is the logo that I have come up with,

Facebook

For the Facebook page I needed to develope an ad to sit at the start of the page to get people to like it.

I based the design for it on the main poster so everything is consistent. The problem I had was placement of the type to make it look like it is actually part of the design and fits in with the style. After many changes I came up with this as the final design.

I decided that a solid box at either the top or bottom of the ad was not needed to display the co-operative film festival text is as this is already displayed in the sign and it seems stupid to display it twice and use unnecessary space.

Social Media

As part of the brief the co-op want new pages designing for Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and for these to be incorporated into the website. They currently have personalised pages for each of these social media pages but they fit in with the current style that has been used for the campaign not the style that I have created.

These are the current designs for the social media pages,

Website Changes

After making each of the pages for the website I have decided to make a few changes to some of the pages.
For the start page I am going to get rid of the strings. The reason for this is because I want the objects to fly out when the page is clicked to enter the website. This would not work as well if the objects have strings because you would be able to see the end.
On all of the pages I am going to add an extra box on the side navigation menu. This box will have the National Media Museum logo in and will act as a link to the museums website to give viewers an easy access to their site.
The final change is to the gallery. Because I am adding an extra box on the side bar there is now no room for a long film strip at the bottom of the galley therefore I have changed the design. The gallery will have now a smaller film strip at the bottom which will hold 5 videos. The idea behind the gallery page is to give people an insight of previous films that have been viewed therefore five films is plenty and I do not want to over complicate the website by putting too many videos inside.

Website Layout Ideas

This is the final design that I have decided to use for each of the pages. The use of a darker gradient has more impact and appeal and creates a cinematic atmosphere. The information box is also on string to fit in with the cardboard objects that feature on the page.

The website is going to include various animations to make the website more intriguing and fun. The icons are going to flash, this will help the user know what what page they are on and make navigating easier. The light around the sign on the homepage will also animate and the information will bounce in just like the cardboard objects do when the website is first viewed.

Final Icons

These are the final website icons. I decided to change the colour from purple has purple has no part in the co-operative branding colours. I decided to use yellow instead to reflect the colours from the main logo and because yeallow is one of the co-op's colours.

These are the icons that have been developed for each of the pages. I have decided to use the cardboard feel for each of the icons as this fits in with the cardboard objects that I made. I have done two different options for the circles, one with lights in the background, (same as the background for the posters,) and one where the circle is split into two, (dark and a light half.) The design which I think works best is dark and light circle as the icon is too small to have too much detail with the lights.

The icons are going to have a thick stroke around some part of the object, like a shadow. This will add a cinematic feel to the icons to reflect the main purpose of the campaign.

Website Icons

To make the website easy to navigate through for the user I have decided to design and create an icon to represent each of the pages.

Research has been done looking at various existing website icons and seeing which styles, colours and graphics work best.
From looking at various icons I have come to the conclusion that rounded icons work best as they look more friendly and welcoming. Also I am thinking about adding a flash animation to the icons to make the website more appealing and this would work better if the icons were rounded instead of square.
I like the depth that has been added onto the top left icons with the help of a shadow. This would work with the posters as depth and perspective has been added to them and it would be good to carry this through to the website.
The actual graphics for the icons needs to bold and easy to understand but also relate to film some way.

Website Layout Ideas

Above are some of my website development ideas. The top two are bland, plain and boring. They would not grab the attention of a teenager as there is nothing appealing, different or eye catching about either of there. The second two are a lot better as having some of the pattern assets in the background add more detail and personality to the website and links well with the posters. However I think the website could be made even more intriguing by having a darker colour at the bottom of the page and having more of a gradient. Also the information box where all of the text and pictures will go is standard at the moment. It needs to be more exciting and displayed in an different unusual way to add more personality to the website.

Inspiration

I have found this website header for a foreign website and decided to base the layout for my website on this. Having a black navigation menu on a slant could be seen as an abstract representation of a clapper board. Having buttons with white text will also help illustrate this. The menu on a slant also look less formal, fun and appealing to the target audience.

Website Pages

On the brief it says that the co-operative ado not mind what pages there are on the website as long as there is a gallery so people can view a few of the previous years entries and social media is incorporated into the website somehow. On top of this they also asked for an entry form where viewers can post a link to their film when it has been unloaded onto YouTube. I have decided that I will keep all of the existing pages that are currently on the film festival website as they all have a purpose and some importance for giving viewers all the information they will need however I am going to add a page about the 45th birthday.

Film Festival Websites

To start off my research I have looked at other websites for Film Festivals. The reason for doing this is to get an idea of what styles and designs other people have used. I don't want a design that has been over used previously but I want the site to be instantly recognisable as a Film Festival website.
This site is simple and plain. The design used for this would not appeal to the target audience for my brief which is teenagers. The white background would not work as teenagers react better to colours.

This site uses the same idea of having a film reel for the navigation menu. This approach has been used many of time so I want to try and stay away from this.
I would say out of the three websites this is the most appealing but still is not great. It follows the layout of a blog so it is easy to navigation through and all of the information is readable. However when first looking at this site you can not tell that it is a film website.
