Website Layout Ideas

This is the final design that I have decided to use for each of the pages. The use of a darker gradient has more impact and appeal and creates a cinematic atmosphere. The information box is also on string to fit in with the cardboard objects that feature on the page.

The website is going to include various animations to make the website more intriguing and fun. The icons are going to flash, this will help the user know what what page they are on and make navigating easier. The light around the sign on the homepage will also animate and the information will bounce in just like the cardboard objects do when the website is first viewed.

Final Icons

These are the final website icons. I decided to change the colour from purple has purple has no part in the co-operative branding colours. I decided to use yellow instead to reflect the colours from the main logo and because yeallow is one of the co-op's colours.

These are the icons that have been developed for each of the pages. I have decided to use the cardboard feel for each of the icons as this fits in with the cardboard objects that I made. I have done two different options for the circles, one with lights in the background, (same as the background for the posters,) and one where the circle is split into two, (dark and a light half.) The design which I think works best is dark and light circle as the icon is too small to have too much detail with the lights.

The icons are going to have a thick stroke around some part of the object, like a shadow. This will add a cinematic feel to the icons to reflect the main purpose of the campaign.

Website Icons

To make the website easy to navigate through for the user I have decided to design and create an icon to represent each of the pages.

Research has been done looking at various existing website icons and seeing which styles, colours and graphics work best.
From looking at various icons I have come to the conclusion that rounded icons work best as they look more friendly and welcoming. Also I am thinking about adding a flash animation to the icons to make the website more appealing and this would work better if the icons were rounded instead of square.
I like the depth that has been added onto the top left icons with the help of a shadow. This would work with the posters as depth and perspective has been added to them and it would be good to carry this through to the website.
The actual graphics for the icons needs to bold and easy to understand but also relate to film some way.

Website Layout Ideas

Above are some of my website development ideas. The top two are bland, plain and boring. They would not grab the attention of a teenager as there is nothing appealing, different or eye catching about either of there. The second two are a lot better as having some of the pattern assets in the background add more detail and personality to the website and links well with the posters. However I think the website could be made even more intriguing by having a darker colour at the bottom of the page and having more of a gradient. Also the information box where all of the text and pictures will go is standard at the moment. It needs to be more exciting and displayed in an different unusual way to add more personality to the website.

Inspiration

I have found this website header for a foreign website and decided to base the layout for my website on this. Having a black navigation menu on a slant could be seen as an abstract representation of a clapper board. Having buttons with white text will also help illustrate this. The menu on a slant also look less formal, fun and appealing to the target audience.

Website Pages

On the brief it says that the co-operative ado not mind what pages there are on the website as long as there is a gallery so people can view a few of the previous years entries and social media is incorporated into the website somehow. On top of this they also asked for an entry form where viewers can post a link to their film when it has been unloaded onto YouTube. I have decided that I will keep all of the existing pages that are currently on the film festival website as they all have a purpose and some importance for giving viewers all the information they will need however I am going to add a page about the 45th birthday.
